Maggy London // Black and White for Fall

Maggy London // Black and White for Fall

Between August and September, so much has happened around the world. Family and friends have been at the forefront of my mind in the past two months and even still today, so I needed to take a break and ensure that was happening first. If you are able to donate in any capacity to help the American people of Puerto Rico, please visit here for more information that directly goes to the aid desperately needed there.

Now that we are into Fall, I want to share this pretty Maggy London black and white midi dress (on sale for under $60!) . You’ve definitely seen me share many Maggy London pieces this past year. Some of your favorites have been this black and white wrap dress, this colorful lace dress, and this beautiful sheer top! I feel in love with the brand because it represents all that I admire in a clothing brand from feminine dresses and tops (and now pants!) to pretty prints.

Mixing prints is something I’m enjoying lately, and a good tip is that any leopard or tortoise heel (as shown here) is the perfect way to add to any black and white look, even stripes!

And since the Fall is taking it’s sweet time to show up keeping us in warmer temps the last few days, this dress is the perfect transitional piece with a classic black and white twist on florals. One of the best attributes to a Maggy London dress is how fitted it can be on the waist, making for the perfect detailed belt to add to the look.

Adding some texture and cutouts for an edgy style while still looking classic to work is a great way to try something new in your wardrobe. So go for it!

Thoughts // What it Takes to Be Brave

Thoughts // What it Takes to Be Brave

It isn’t easy being brave, is it? Bravery takes so many forms that sometimes I am not sure I am even the right person to talk about what it takes to be brave. But I do know I feel brave. I feel brave every time I get up in the morning and accept another day as a gift. So I go out and make the best of myself – for my son, my family and whomever I come in contact with that day. I do so in spite of all that I fear. And with that personal experience, I’d like to share what I  understand to be 3 ways of thinking to becoming and being brave. Feel free to leave your own thoughts about a bravery in your life in the comments below!

what it takes to be brave

Anything that has hurt you before did not win.

I know for a fact that any hurt I or you have ever experienced did not win. Why? Because you are still here – reading, learning, growing. That alone is brave. It is brave to face all the ugly battles of the past and still stand strong because even at your weakest moment, you survived. It may have hurt you. It may have stifled your growth in that moment, but you did not let it win. You did not succumb to it, because you are here. You are strong and brave. You conquered it.

what it takes to be brave

Fear of taking a chance only controls an unprepared mind, so prepare for bravery.

Take chances. Plenty of them. I am a Virgo, and while I’m not fully convinced a zodiac sign defines me, I like to plan, be organized, and am slightly flawed in my desire to be perfect. As an actor, anything spontaneous is critical to success on stage. You have to be in the moment and be present. Ready for anything. And that is just it, you have to be READY (and prepared!) for anything; not afraid to leap into the scene because you prepared for what would come your way! I learned that my fears came from not being prepared for the unexpected. If you are afraid to take the risk, don’t let the fear hold you back, but just prepare and accept the best of the outcomes, rather than the worst. That will be your brave moment.

what it takes to be brave

Throw an anchor into your truth to stay grounded as your grow.

The truest form of bravery is when you know your truth. Really know it. Knowing what you are seeking to gain from being brave in any given moment of your life has to be based on your understanding on your own truth. What do you want? Why do you want it? Who and how does it help? Asking yourself these questions clarifies what you are about to do that requires bravery so much so that your confidence in doing that very thing will build. It prepares you. When I wanted to start this space, I was quite unclear in my mind. I did not know where I wanted it to go, I just wanted to do it. And I began. But it wasn’t until I took a few hours in true focus, that I started to face my truth, and discover how to grow. How to not be afraid of all that was required to really “doing this”. When I stopped myself, identified that truth, that is when this space began to grow.

what it takes to be brave

Thank you so much for reading this post. It is a little something different, but I am happy to share ways in which I feel inspired to live a positive life. I hope you found something in it to feel inspired by, every if just for a moment.

Giveaway // The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

Giveaway // The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale has been live for a few days now and with – dare I say it? – FALL coming around the corner, I picked up a few pieces that I knew I would love throughout the season! I have been wearing these Nike sneakers almost every day already because they are so comfortable and easy to slide on and go. Since I’ve been keeping myself in flats this summer, I also was wanted a classic pair of white kicks and these from Treasure & Bond with blue suede fit the bill. Getting for fall means getting ready for New York Fashion Week, and loved when I saw this pleated skirt which is the perfect golden yellow for the transition from the late summer season into fall!  You can’t go wrong with a new pair of over the knee boots, so I decided to pick up another pair and these from Marc Fisher fit like a glove! I couldn’t get away without buying a great off the shoulder top, so I grabbed this one from Free People in hunter green!

I’m currently overhauling my entire home with new furniture, bedding and loads of pieces for a nice change of pace in my house while not having to move. Ever feel like you need that sometimes? Me too! I’m excited to parter up with a great group of gals for the giveaway below! Be sure to enter and check out the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, because its the one not to miss!

Sunset // Yellow Eyelet Dress & Gold Sandals

Sunset // Yellow Eyelet Dress & Gold Sandals

There is nothing more beautiful than taking a trip away from it all and ending up on a tropical island for a long weekend! Resort life is pretty amazing, and when you have a beautiful sunset and palm trees all around you can’t go wrong with wearing yellow! My husband and I went on a little getaway (more of the story and a vlog soon! Subscribe to see it first!) and I brought this yellow eyelet dress by Maggy London with me because I knew I wanted to dress up in a bright color for an evening out to dinner.

I know some women may think they can’t wear yellow. But trust me, you can wear anything you want wherever you want as long as you feel confident in it. That is all that matters. Yellow is that color that can feel a bit intimidating to pair with other colors, but shades of red, violet, pinks all go well with yellow. With this dress and a sun-kissed tan, I wanted to simply wear all yellow tones of amber and gold chrome accents.

Gold sandals are the perfect nude when you want to kick your outfits up a notch and go the long mile, so I always like to invest in a great pair to wear for a few years.

The lovely open back provides an sexy but elegant surprise to the dress, which I appreciated on a warm evening. A great transitional pieces from day (paired with a navy blazer) to night, I know I’ll be wearing this dress again soon come Fall.

Summer Oasis // Jersey Shore Beach House

Summer Oasis // Jersey Shore Beach House

What’s summer without a stay by the beach in a beautiful home away from home? I love staying at any great hotel, but over the last few years my husband and I have opted to stay in homes we find on VRBO. Whether we were staying in London, Buenos Aires, Cape Cod or for a staycation at the Jersey Shore, we always like the coziness of a place that feels like home. Enter Oasis By the Sea! This exquisite and well-appointed Jersey Shore beach house in Manasquan, NJ is literally 120 steps away from the beach, and the minute you enter the door, all you want to do is RELAX!

Jersey Shore Beach House

The owners of the beach house really took the time to pay attention to the details that make a beachside rental feel like an oasis. With neutral tones throughout the home with touches of gold and anchored with a variety of sea blue colors all around the house, you almost don’t want to leave to go to the beach itself.

I loved wearing this white dress around the house and shared more here in this post. Love the decor? I’ve rounded up some similar finds to transform one of your rooms into an oasis home, even if you don’t live anywhere by the sea but want to feel like you do!

Jersey Shore beach house

With 4 bedrooms (one with a balcony), two full bathrooms, toys for kids, ceiling fans in every room along with a sweet welcome treat, the home came equipped with everything we needed, even if we simply wanted to stay in and cook for the night. With plenty of space for parking (in the shade!), beach essentials such as beach towels and chairs, you really don’t need to pack much to enjoy your vacation in complete comfort. It really felt like an oasis by the sea.

There is so much to do in the area of Manasquan and the surrounding towns (Sea Girt, Point Pleasant) as well. With great restaurants, the boardwalk at Point Pleasant, and the Jersey Shore at your footsteps, there is no denying that if you are looking for a great place to stay without the potential hassles of booking a hotel, this home is right for you. It definitely was for my family.

There are a few weeks/weekends open in July and August, so be sure to check out the Oasis by the Seas home here to see if something may work for you and your family. Be sure to book your stay soon, as this is the first summer it has been available for the summer and almost already rented out entirely for the season!
