Fall Shoulder // LBD with a Pop of Red

Fall Shoulder // LBD with a Pop of Red

Happy August! How did we already get to the last days of Summer? We’ve just returned from our vacation and are getting ready to return to school. It’s a busy time for us all and I actually get a little anxious about it.  It always feels like there never is enough time to sort out all of the shopping, planning, and organizing I totally thought I was going to get done when school was over in June. But here we are at the start of another school year and while I did accomplish quite a bit, the “to-do” list just keeps growing!

This Season's Gold // Pop of Red

Now I’m not always a fan of wearing all black in the summer, but if there is something special about a piece I’m happy to give in, like this simple and classic dress. I’ve seen plenty of off the shoulder looks this summer, and I’m definitely wearing plenty of those looks as seen here and here. But one way to play with the idea of the off the shoulder trend as we head into the early start of the Fall season (yes, I know!) is the shoulder cutout, and this LBD is definitely the perfect version of it.

This Season's Gold // Maggy London LBD

For summer, I wanted to wear this dress casually by adding a pop of red on the lip along with the bag and shoes. However, I can easily dress it up as the cooler days start to creep in with a thrown over blazer, clutch and some gold accessories, or even adding a fuller skirt over the dress to create a third look from it.

It’s Tuesday, which means one day closer to the weekend! (It’s never too early!) I’m gearing up to share some fun and sunny posts from my recent trip to Florida, but being back home and still in cool weather, has me excited about styling camel and stripes because I’m enjoying wearing my blazer and long wool vest these days. I love how natural and chic the combination looks no matter the color of the stripes. Since my teens, I had an obsession with anything striped in any color or combination (See what I mean? And here, and here!). As a result, I’m sharing two looks today and some great pieces that would go perfect together to recreate the camel and stripes look for yourself. Hope you enjoy!

Camel and stripes

I loved playing with the idea of making this coat vest into a dress. While I definitely needed to wear something underneath to keep warm (biker shorts!), I originally bought this vest a bit larger than usual and liked the idea of cinching it up into a dress with a belt that closed with belt that had no loops. It kept the look slim when I already knew I had some bulk to contend with due to the thickness of the coat (which kept me warm too!) Playing with a heavier layer, the stripes and open sandals kept the look light (I took advantage of an oddly warmer winter day to pull this off!). camel coat vest

I have been living in this double breasted blazer for more than I’d like to admit this winter. I found it on sale at Banana Republic, and it was the last one in store! I absolutely love it. Popping up the color to show the grey inset is my favorite part. Red stripes, red lips and red bottoms made this a perfect dress down Friday look to go from work to a night out with your girls.

Trio // Styling Olive, Navy and Wine

Happy Tuesday! I’ve been enjoying warmer weather and time with my boys and family at the happiest of places (Disney, as I’m still a kid at heart!) for Mr. E’s birthday! I can’t wait to share details and travel ideas from this long weekend. It feels good to smile and just enjoy time bonding with the special people I love. I think about heaven often and how my joy is a representation of my angel’s wish for us to be well and together. We enjoyed our Valentine’s day cooking and dancing and catching some sun! And while I know that NYC right now is experiencing some major cold right now and NYFW is in full swing, I thought I’d share some warm details in some of my favorite colors – olive, navy, and wine (seen here too!).

Giving Thanks :: This Season’s Gold in Tulle

Giving Thanks :: This Season’s Gold in Tulle

I am dedicating today’s Sunday Favorites to all of you! This platform has given me so much joy and room to breathe after all that has happened this past year. You have helped give this space its wings! Grief can be so stifling and keep you frozen in place where you feel like there is nothing you ever want to do to feel happy again. But by the grace of all that is good in this world, I did not let that happen. This Season’s Gold is the very space in which I live to honor every single one of us women who have to go through life in the least ideal way; and that can look different to every one of us (loss, single parenting, divorce, financial strain, this list can go on and on!). I am giving thanks to the very soul that makes me see everyday as an opportunity to always try something new, never give up, to be proud of my strength and live to the fullest. I know I would have raised a strong, independent, hard working, passionate and honorable young woman, and because of This Season’s Gold, I know she guides me to celebrate women who are the same. image

Not realizing that I hadn’t thought much about what to wear this holiday season (this one is a tough one!), I was so pleased when Nadine of Milagros Designs asked me to style one of her most popular pieces, the Fiesta Skirt. Given my affinity for gold, she thought it would be fitting to wear her gold tulle skirt, and within moments I knew exactly how I wanted to wear it. I’ve seen many bloggers wearing tulle skirts, and to be honest, I often thought I could never make the look work. But I knew I wanted to keep the look simple and classic, so it felt just right with a fitted turtleneck. Add on the glamorous (and shiny gold!) accessories, and I was set feeling ready for the holidays!

image This was especially an enjoyable experience because it allowed me to meet such strong woman doing what they love. Not only is Nadine a seasoned and skilled fashion designer (follow her on Instagram here!), but Lillie from Jersey Fashionista (blogger and skilled photographer!) joined us to be our photographer for the afternoon, along with Alexa from Lex Loves Couture who styled the skirt (in pink!), were all a pleasure to meet and work with on this photoshoot.

If you are loving tulle skirts these days which are perfect for the holiday season, prepare to have fun creating your ideal tulle skirt with Nadine in any length and color. Enjoy!

Matching // Burgundy Over the Knee Boots

Matching // Burgundy Over the Knee Boots

It’s almost the weekend! It has been quite dreary the last few days on my side of the world, but I was excited when I remember that I hadn’t shared a fun colorful look that I wore not so long ago! The colors this fall season have been so rich and warm and perfect right before the holidays roll around! But there are a few that have been standing out, such as burgundy and blue. Or is it wine and ink, or bordeaux and navy? Whatever you may call it, it’s here to stay for a little while longer. And I love it! It’s been quite obvious those are colors I cannot seem to get enough of this season, and my previous posts here,  here  and here are evidence of that.
Burgundy Over the Knee Boots for Petite

Now for a petite woman like me, it can be hard to tell if over the knee boots over jeans work well unless you actually try them on in the store. That’s why when I am purchasing over the knee boots in the store, I end up wearing the types of jeans I would most likely wear with the boots. Fitted skinny jeans for me are best since it helps to avoid any major bulk at the ankle and have any fit along the shaft of the boot. See more about fitting over the knee boots here.

A bright pink bag brings out the undertones of the burgundy in the outfit and the pattern play in the plaid button down. I liked going more prep that farm girl with the top by adding the blazer to match the boots.

One thing I grew up seeing often was the women in my family always matching everything in their outfits, bags, shoes, clothing, lipstick…all of it (And don’t get me wrong, they can dress well!). I’ll even admit that I have overdosed on the matchy-matchy look quite a few times myself (this outfit, case in point!). But I’ve been breaking out and trying new things in my style to elevate the fun factor, so I am working on playing with various color families as I develop more looks over the seasons. Although, don’t doubt that a great full monochrome look like this one here is a bad thing!  You should have fun with color, and working with shades within one color is a great place to start!
