Most of us wait to wear our favorite maxi dress on the warmer days of the year. Wearing denim with our dresses may not be the first thing we think about. Yet, one way to take your maxi dress to the next level is to wear it with jeans! The perfect maxi dress to pair with pants (or shorts on those really warm days) is a full length button down dress so you can leave it open at the waistline, and wear it like a long and flowy cardigan or shirtdress (basically!). It’s a great way to play with proportions and get two outfits out of one maxi dress.
With bright colors for the summer, I have worn this dress with white jeans also, and love how the floral print plays as that pop of color I mentioned in my last post that goes well with white denim. Here are some of my favorite maxi’s to layer the next time you are heading out for the day!
Would you try the maxi dress and pants look? I’d love to what you think! And if you aren’t subscribed to our newsletter, you can sign up here as we get ready to share a big announcement this week, and would love for you to be the first to know! Thank you for stopping by!
Do you have a love/hate relationship with white jeans? I do. First, let me just say that I love wearing white and styling white jeans because of their versatility and simplicity (see here with burgundy and in all white here). But some white denim can be too thin where you can see through them, so finding a great pair is key! White jeans are great for summer and evenings when you go out for date night and want to look classic and chic. When you find the perfect pair of white jeans, be sure to buy more than one!
Style your white jeans with a statement top.
This sheer shoulder top from Maggy London is a piece that can be worn casually as I did here or with a long skirt for a more formal look. From front to back, the illusion top is equal parts elegant and classic, with a hint of sexy – the perfect statement top. It is my new favorite top of the summer!
In order to change up an old pair of my favorite white jeans, I frayed the hem myself. All you need is a ruler, scissors and a large nail file. 1) Fold the jeans with the front side of them facing outward and line up the hem. 2) Using a ruler, decide where you will cut the hem (and cut) considering that you will lose about 1/2 an inch once you start to fray the edges. 3) After cutting, try the jeans on to ensure accuracy of your cut, and then remove them to begin to fray the edges. 4) Using a clean nail file (white is best), rub the edge the jeans that will start to separate the fibers. you can fray as much or as little as you want. If you want more you can cut slits around the hem use nail file the same way to get a wider frayed edge.
Have fun with the accessories.
When you style a look simply in black and white, have fun finding a pop of color or a print to make the entire outfit stand out. Leopard is basically another neutral in my opinion, and adding these sandals to the look was just enough to add some fun to the outfit!
Wearing a red lip looks good on any woman, and there’s something about wearing a red lipstick that feels daring and empowering. While it’s not limited to the way you style your white jean look, when you add that pop of color an evening out can feel much more fun! =)
What is your favorite way to styling white jeans? I’d love to know and get inspired by you! Leave your thoughts in the comments. Thank you so much for stopping by and reading!

The words “I’m busy” are often an understatement in any mother’s daily life. I am sure of it. We all wish there were more hours in the day and less tasks on our to-do lists. Am I right? I know that with everything I have going on this time of year (planning trips and kid camp registrations, tests, tending to allergies, writing speeches, I could go on and on…), I rarely find a moment that I can dedicate to going to the gym. I’ve said a thousand times I’m returning to Bikram Yoga for a 6am class, but have yet to make it. (Trying!) So with my busy life, I know that I have to find different ways to motivate myself to stay active until I finally do make it to that 6am class! Here are my 3 ways to stay active while “the busy” keeps going.
1. WEAR CLOTHES THAT MOTIVATE
There is something to be said for wearing clothing that motivates you to stay active. Feeling good about yourself is something I believe is important in motivating yourself to get fit and take on a new adventure, even if it means getting a new outfit to get the ball rolling. This netted top is long enough to cover my backside while light enough to wear on a cool or hot day. I also love finding a perfect pair of leggings that made with attention to detail and feel snug in all the right places. High-waisted is a plus! These prAna pants fit the bill! Smooth, snug, high-waisted and made from sustainable material (doing good for the world!), these leggings were the perfect motivation to enjoy an active day outdoors!
2. TAKE THE FAMILY WITH YOU
Taking pics is one thing, but having my husband and my son to make it a day we can all enjoy outdoors is another. Going on hikes (see post here), finding ways to take on new adventures together, and modeling the importance of physical activity to my son is important. Getting to spend time with those you love by choosing activities that keep you active is the perfect way to get more stuff done!
3. DISCOVER SOMEWHERE NEW
Making the effort to find somewhere new to walk/hike/workout when you have too many things already on your plate may just feel like another task. However, it is possible to make it happen. Take a moment to think about a place you’ve always wanted to see or visit – even if only a short drive away. You’ll discover you are more inclined to spend time exploring a new place with a fresh set of eyes, and therefore stay active longer. Maybe that’s the reason I am less likely to make it to a gym to stay active (although winter may change my mind!) since I love the adventure of discovering somewhere new.
What do you do to stay active when you are too busy to workout? I’d love to be inspired by your ideas! Thank you for stopping by!
The unofficial start to summer is almost here and I’ve just gotten back from a beautiful getaway that I can’t wait to share with you all! More details soon! But right now I’m in the mood to celebrate summer and I’m starting with a fun night out with a local boutique in Hoboken, NJ! Located in Ridgewood and Hoboken, NJ and in its newest location in Wellesely, MA, I love alba Boutique because not only did I find this jumpsuit there, but all of the pieces in store are beautifully curated for your summer styling – from lace maxi’s, jumpsuits, jackets, cute shorts, and all types of event looks to take you from a baby shower to a wedding to a night out on the town!
This peach jumpsuit for summer is everything right now! As a petite gal, I sometimes feel jumpsuits cut me off at the waist a bit too short and I can look frumpy, but not in this jumpsuit. From the light and airy material that keeps me cool on a hot summer night with a the low-v open back, I am seriously wearing it on repeat!
With all the neutral shades from the peach to the nude sandals and tan clutch, I like to add a pop of color. My new favorite shades for the beach – a great pair of aviators – are this summer season’s newest obsession in an ombré shade of blue!
The back of this jumpsuit! I can’t get enough. To be totally honest, it can be a challenge to wear a low v-back outfit without a good undergarment! You know what I mean ladies, so I found some great pieces for this kind of jumpsuit here, here and here! Let me know what you think!
If you are local and can make it to the Hoboken area, RSVP and stop by the event for some great music, drinks, and a braid bar to get you ready for Memorial Day weekend and the launch of the summer season! More details and RSVP form can be found here.
I think you’ll agree with me…when you find a dress that fits you like a glove, you name it the must-have dress! Am I right? Well, it turns out that when I saw this dress, not only did I love the color and the “wrap” style that gives shape to my petite frame, but loved that it was made in “jersey” fabric. I immediately knew exactly how I wanted to style it for the season.
I love a great dress! Have you noticed? Pretty and girly to edgy and modern, I love how easy a dress can be to style. Not only does a great wrap dress suit every woman, but when you find the right dress made in the right fabric, it moves to the top of my list! There is something about a forgiving fabric like jersey (made with 5% spandex) that has a little bit of stretch and doesn’t require too much maintenance with pressing or dry cleaning. What woman doesn’t want that? And as a Mom, I honestly need the easiest thing to wear when I want to feel pretty but not make a big deal about it.
I could easily wear this dress casually with some flat sandals or all dressed up for Mother’s Day Sunday brunch or a summer an evening to dinner. With these bright colors, walking along the boardwalk in Seaside Heights, NJ matched the mood of the lovely spring day. From day to night, causal to dressy, I didn’t have to worry that my dress would wrinkle or lose it’s shape after a long day out.
Do you love jersey fabric and wrap dresses as much as I do? Let me know in the comments below!
