Celebrating an Anniversary with a Date Night

Celebrating an Anniversary with a Date Night

Happy Friday everyone! Today marks our 1 Month Anniversary at This Season’s Gold! I want to thank each and every one of you for following us as we continue to grow. Whether for one visit or twenty-three, we are happy that you have joined us.

So what does a Mom do when there’s a special anniversary? Go out on a date, of course. It’s probably one of the few times you get to jump (yes, jump for joy!) out of your usual garb and go buy that outfit you’ve been eyeing online. Yes. No one has to know that you ventured to try it on whilst your child was losing their mind on the fitting room line, or even that you just want to buy it to have something new and nice to look at.  Come to think of it, when was the last time you bought something nice for yourself anyway?

With a baby sitter in the wings, a secured date that isn’t allowed to back out (thanks honey!), and a place to go, all you have to do is go and get fancy. In a effort to help you with this endeavor, I put together some fun ideas.

olive and pink outfit

I love the idea of wearing heels on a date with my husband because it makes me feel extra special, pretty and elegant, which are all good things. I have to keep in mind that going on a date means no verbal tug at my ear with “mommy” a thousand times over (fyi: I love my son beyond words) and so I shouldn’t dress like I’m expecting to hear it either. So while those date nights can sometimes be few and far between, I do try to avoid my usual casual Mom style. Try it. Make going out all the more reason to feel special with a nice outfit, some great makeup (trust me, go the extra mile for extra fabulosity), and even an extra spritz of perfume (at the crown of your head is best and lasts longer).

Olive vest

And lastly on the topic of all things fancy and celebratory, so many new opportunities are coming our way that we want to share with you because we couldn’t do this without you! As promised a giveaway for our 1 Month Anniversary will happen and will be announced this Sunday. It definitely will be an exciting one for sure!

So the only thing left to do is go book a  date night (and a reason to shop) with your love and have fun!  Thank you for reading!

Styling Seersucker? YES!

Styling Seersucker? YES!

J.Crew Pencil Skirt and Sweater, Printed Scarf(old), Saks Fifth Avenue Crossbody, Asos Heels, EOS Lip Balm, Francesca’s Jewelry (All wardrobe or similar pieces here)

Happy Wednesday! I am going to go out on a limb here and say that every woman should have at least one seersucker item in their wardrobe. It can sometimes be a difficult style to pull off (or is that just in my head?), particularly because seersucker styling usually falls under the category of menswear. Just try Googling “seersucker” and see how many results are really about men’s suits. At its origin, seersucker fabric was first popularized by Haspel, a menswear company rooted in New Orleans since 1909. It was at this company where the idea and need to make suits with this lightweight fabric (it was New Orleans…in the summer!) made its way into the closets of the most fashionable and affluent of men.

Enter my husband. Fashionable? Yes, very. Affluent? Does rich in love count? One day in our early stages of dating, he met me after work and to my surprise (and liking), he was rocking a seersucker suit with stylish brown shoes, a bow tie and pink shirt (Men wear pink!…Moving on.) My point in all of this is that I wanted to look as great as he made me feel seeing him wear that suit. So a few years later, I finally found a great seersucker suit in J.Crew and had to have it. I mean, why not? The material and print just SCREAM Spring and Summer. And every season there is always something to find in this great fabric/print, be it a swimsuit or summer dress. So make it your mission to find something seersucker this season!

And being that we have officially entered Spring (the weather has yet to catch up), I decided to dip into my closet to play with some seersucker styling to get you started. Wear (and rock it out!) at your own discretion.

Styling Blue Blooming

Styling Blue Blooming

Happy First Day of Spring! Did you ever think that you could look to nature to decide what to wear? Probably not as much as you should. While I know there are several seasonal “go-to’s” that we are quick to want, no doubt motivated by the seasonally fabulous fashion shows held the previous season (therefore dictating what you find in the retail shops the following season!), we forget that nature is the best reference for our fashion color combinations. The blue hydrangea is one of my favorite flowers and butterflies hold a special place in my heart, but to see this color in nature is not as usual as you think. Quick, name 3 things you can think of that are blue in nature? (Oh, good. I really couldn’t. My first thought was blueberries. But let’s get back to fashion.) Since we are currently experiencing a snow event here in the Northeast on the first day of spring (rare, but not rare enough!), I decided to explore the less often true blue seen in nature with a little styling!

I absolutely love a blue blazer. I think all shades of blue work, but here a bright blue blazer from J. Crew (click here) works really well in the category of “must have’s” for spring. The warm brown tone of Fossil’s saddle bag (similar styles here) tempers the brightness of the cool blue suede shoes (similar here). Of course, any black and white shirt should be treated as a neutral, so consider it as such and have fun with it! Add cuffed jeans for a casual look and you’re good to go! Blouse: The Loft, Gold Hoops: J. Crew, Lipstick: MAC image As we cross our fingers for warmer days sooner than later, these silk scalloped-edged shorts (others here) look great on any shape because they have a loose fit and flare to them, and therefore the peplum top (old, Banana Republic) perfectly pairs well. Add a pair of heeled sandals (similar styles here) or any choice of heel height (metallic flats are pretty too), a crossbody bag (J. Crew, others here), and a few accessories and you’re off to a movie date or brunch with friends. Gold Watch: Fossil, Double Length Necklace: Anthropologie
image The window pane blouse is definitely in season and is having a moment this Spring.  Pairing this loose fitted blouse with a pleated skirt is perfect for work (and play). The red crossbody bag (Fossil here) and lipstick become the pop of color you need to keep the look classy, yet fun. Blouse: Loft (get it on sale!) , Skirt: J. Crew (similar here), Lipstick: MAC, Mother’s Nameplate Necklace: Pottery Barn Kids (click here) Go out there and have fun in blue (the brighter the better!) this season. You’ll be sure to have a golden moment when you do! Thanks for reading!

Spring Prep

Spring Prep

Hello to Friday! I am so ready for the change in season.  Spring brings warmer days and more sunlight. And luckily, it reintroduces us to our closets as we look for ways to organize better (“this year I’ll do it!”) to get rid of the old and buy something new.  It means finding those sandals that have been hibernating all winter.  Spring is all about the brighter colors, the pretty flowers and all things renewed.

With just a week away, I decided to start digging and find just a few of my Spring essentials. I wouldn’t want Spring to catch me unprepared for fear that winter might just try to creep back in!

Shoes :: Christian Dior Cutout Patent Leather Sandals (old, similar Click here or here), Sunglasses: Prada (similar here), Marc Jacobs Daisy Fragrance, MAC Lipstick in Zen RoseEssie Nail Polish, Ring (Similar here)

Hope you enjoy your weekend! Thank you for reading. Please leave a comment below and tell me, how do you prepare for Spring?

Shoes First :: From the bottom to the top

Shoes First :: From the bottom to the top

Happy Thursday! The weekend is almost here!

There is nothing more difficult than getting up in the morning and suddenly not knowing what to wear. Whether you are a stay at home mom, have to be up and out of the house before the children wake up, or recover from a late night out, you do have to get dressed. Obvious, right? But what you chose to wear can really have an effect on how you feel for the rest of the day.

For these past cold winter months, I’ve lived under a hat, sunglasses (even on cloudy days),  big moon boot Uggs, sweats and a sweater. It’s where I was most comfortable until I remembered what it was like to get dressed and feel good about the effort I put into it.

The title of this post says it all. I’ve had to work my way out of the bottom to the top. And this blog is a part of that transformation. But this thinking also applies as my number one rule in how I get dressed, from a casual weekend to a night out or even when in the midst of the morning rush!

When facing that closet ask yourself, How do I want to feel? And then immediately pay a visit to your shoes. And yes, on some days you can say “I don’t care!” but even that can dictate how you get dressed.

When I look at my shoes, which you should try (when you have “me time”) to organize by color not style, I am usually drawn to one particular color.  Now it all happens within seconds, but I immediately can determine what I am going to feel like in the shoes and go from there. Of course, where you are going will also dictate your choice of ensemble, but lets’s just start with some golden moments using your basic t-shirt and jeans.

Now, these VANELi flats (other colors HERE) are comfortable and easy to slip on. Here I want to feel like I mean business with this chain link Sanctuary clutch while being casual, even if only dealing with my 5 year old’s negotiating skills on the way to school and before I head out to lunch or coffee with some friends.

Chain link clutch

My version of sneakers and jeans for the changing season into Spring allows for some style to sneak into your day with these Mia shoes. I decided to add a scarf, a blazer and a satchel (Cole Haan here) big enough to fill throughout the day with goodies or to hold the water bottle, the toy, the crayons, the Legos…I could go on and on.

Flatly of brown and burgundy

In most cases however, I want to wear my heels. There is just something about lifting my legs off the ground and seeing my calves look stronger than they really are! These Manolo Blahnik BB pumps are classic, classy and surprisingly comfortable. It’s great that you can customize the heel to any height and in any color online at Neiman Marcus. I would definitely meet the girls for a movie matinee or dinner in this simple ensemble.

Tell me, how do you decide what to wear? What are some of your go-to looks that make getting dressed easy for you? I’d love to know and learn more from you! Thank you for reading!
