August is such a great time for vacation and travel, but also a reminder of the Fall season to come. It’s the time of the year where for those of you who go to school, have children in school or work at a school know it’s the last hurrah before getting back to the grind. Our favorite place to go is the beach. We enjoy the serenity of the ocean and the slow pace of simply enjoying time with each other, especially when we travel to faraway beaches rather than those closest to us in New Jersey. We have so many beach stories we still talk about to this day, and it truly is the happiest of times we can recall. Our personal favorite are our Cape Cod beach stories!
Every year when we return to Cape Cod, we make it a habit of visiting two of our favorite beaches, Ridgevale Beach in Chatham and Cahoon Hollow Beach in Wellfleet. They are both gorgeous beaches for two very different reasons.
Ridgevale Beach is the perfect area for parents with young children. You can choose to sit on the side of the shallow inlet area, known as the “creek”, where children can look for crabs and interesting shell life, or on the beach side, where the waves gently roll (the sandbars are the result!) in with a view of chartered sailboats colorfully sailing in the distance.
Cahoon Hollow Beach, part of the Cape Cod National Seashore, is a beach with a bit of a younger crowd due in part to the rather steep sand dune you need to walk down to reach ocean. It is more challenging for someone who may have trouble walking a far distance or up a steep hill (going down is way easier!), so that is something to consider. We happen to love braving the walk every year and make it easier for ourselves with one of these carts filled with all of our stuff to make the trek down (ok, so it’s really my husband who deals with all of that!). The best part is to reward ourselves afterwards with a lunch at The Beachcomber at the top of the dune (also with easy access to parking for all of our stuff!). Note to self: Service can be a bit difficult to access on your phone, so don’t plan on any major Instagram posting or Snapchatting until after you’ve done the climb back up!)
Thank you so much for reading! Are you headed anywhere right before the official start of the school year? What’s your favorite beach story?
Happy Monday! I have officially returned to work mode this week at school, and my vacation days seem so far away already. However, I’m happy to be sharing a travel diary soon, so look out for that. I’ve recently taken to trying new ways to update my older bags to spice them up. This burgundy bag is actually a cross-body with a detachable chain, so I decided to play with the pink details of my Moschino scarf to match my suede pumps for this look.
I liked the idea of playing with color up against this blue suede dress because it can sometimes be a challenge to match a navy dress with the right navy shoes. Of course, a nude pair would look just as nice, but the waterfall effect on the front of this dress made me instantly think of the softness of a scarf that I enjoyed pairing with this tough quilted bag.
In order to make the scarf handle, I simply folded the large squared scarf into a triangle (from diagonal corners), rolled it into a thin long layered roll – as if to wear it around my neck – and slid one side through the hoop and then through the other across the bag. Since there was extra material on top, I took the top and made a knot to make a double layer of the scarf as part of the handle. And suddenly – an instant color coordinated look with my shoes and lips!

Happy August! How did we already get to the last days of Summer? We’ve just returned from our vacation and are getting ready to return to school. It’s a busy time for us all and I actually get a little anxious about it. It always feels like there never is enough time to sort out all of the shopping, planning, and organizing I totally thought I was going to get done when school was over in June. But here we are at the start of another school year and while I did accomplish quite a bit, the “to-do” list just keeps growing!
Now I’m not always a fan of wearing all black in the summer, but if there is something special about a piece I’m happy to give in, like this simple and classic dress. I’ve seen plenty of off the shoulder looks this summer, and I’m definitely wearing plenty of those looks as seen here and here. But one way to play with the idea of the off the shoulder trend as we head into the early start of the Fall season (yes, I know!) is the shoulder cutout, and this LBD is definitely the perfect version of it.
For summer, I wanted to wear this dress casually by adding a pop of red on the lip along with the bag and shoes. However, I can easily dress it up as the cooler days start to creep in with a thrown over blazer, clutch and some gold accessories, or even adding a fuller skirt over the dress to create a third look from it.
Hope you enjoy the styling and the start of the new month and week! How do like to add a pop of red in your looks? We’d love to know and even try styling some of your ideas in an upcoming post! Tweet us or use #TSGoldInspired and let us know.
Happy Monday! I hope you had a great weekend, and if you’ve been anywhere near New York City, staying cool in this heat wave! In the spirit of staying cool, I recently spent an evening out in this summer heat and when I saw this patterned strapless sheath dress, I wanted to own it! It is the perfect summer time look for an evening out when the sun is soon to set but the heat continues to rise.
With the summer heat, it’s important to keep your styling as minimal as possible. I simply added a touch of gold with one of my favorite handbags, airy oval drop hoops, and nude sandals to make my petite frame look as tall as possible. I don’t wear pattens too often, but the classic and classy pattern in this dress beautifully elevated an otherwise simple strapless sheath.
Sometimes I find it rather challenging to get dressed for an evening out in the summer when I rather just be sitting home in my air conditioned home to be quite honest, but if I have plans to go out, I prefer to find something that allows me to feel as cool as possible. I love the texture of this dress that has just the right touch of gold making the scalloped pattern perfectly bright for the summer season. I personally love the colors of this strapless sheath because it happens to incorporate our brand colors!
Hope you enjoy the styling! Stay cool and golden! Let us know in the comments, what is your go to evening look on a hot summer night, or do you just stay home? And if you love this look, we’d love for you to consider sharing it with others! Thank you for reading!
Happy Monday! Just in case you didn’t know yet, Nordstrom is having their biggest sale of the year right now. Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale is that time of year when you get yourself and the kids fall-ready at significantly reduced price points before they go back up for the regular season! As a Nordstrom debit/credit card holder, you can be the first to shop the anniversary sale picks, which started July 14th, before the masses begin to shop on July 22nd. I wasted no time taking a moment to shop the sale, particularly because of a few pieces I had my eye on since their anniversary sale picks went live online.
I fell in love with this leather jacket from BlankNYC because it is the perfect mix between a cardigan and a jacket. I love how soft the leather feels and that it can be worn casually or a bit more dressed up, like I did here. Of course, it’s way too warm to be wearing leather at this time of year, but I definitely can’t wait to wear it come Fall, especially in green.
One of my favorite colors for Fall is olive green, and this sleeveless cowl neck dress is perfect for summer too! I look forward to wearing it on our annual trip to Cape Cod soon! Be sure to catch all the beauty of Cape Cod via Snapchat (@thisseasonsgold). One piece I know I can’t live without for the rest of this summer is a great pair of shades! These shades from Kate Spade (56mm lens) fit my face perfectly, which is saying a lot since I always have a difficult time finding a proper size of shades for my small face.
I love the little message too! Oh, hello sunshine! How sweet!
I fell in love with the simplicity of this gold Speck iPhone case. It is pretty and still the strongest protective case I’ve ever owned. The four corners of the case are rubberized to protect the most sensitive part of my phone. For as much as I let my son use my phone (and dropped several times myself), that’s a major plus!
And while I’m not ready to say goodbye to summer just yet, I’m sharing a few of my other favorite Nordstrom anniversary sale picks with you perfect for the transition from summer into Fall! Enjoy shopping and thank you for stopping by!
