Holiday Shopping at Rockefeller Center

Holiday Shopping at Rockefeller Center

family at rockefeller centerWhat is the first thought that comes to mind when you think about the holidays and Rockefeller Center? Tree lighting and the ice rink, possibly? How about all the amazing shops at 30 Rock? I decided to take my family on an early walk through some of the shops at Rockefeller Center, including the newly re-opened FAO Schwarz (which I am so over the moon about!) to share a few of my favorites on my holiday gift guide list this season.

VICTORINOX at Rockefeller Center

Victorinox at Rockefeller Center

First stop, Victorinox. My husband loves Swiss Army knives, and so we decided to check out the store. I happen to love their luggage collection as my son owns one just for himself.

Victorinox - swiss army knife

From sport knives to luggage to watches, Victorinox is a well-known brand particularly for their namesake which translates to “stainless steel”. I love that you can also have their Swiss army knives personalized right in the shop!

T2 TEA at Rockefeller Center

Next, we were off to T2 Tea,  a brand I didn’t know much about but upon entering immediately fell in love with their tea concept and getting to sample some of their teas.

T2 at Rockefeller Center

My son’s adventurous palette had him trying the tea too (T2!). One of our favorites that makes the perfect gift for a tea-lover is their Storybook Tea Loose Tea series, which comes in a beautifully packaged storybook. In store, they added soy milk and honey which made it such a creamy blend of goodness, we had to have another taste.

A few other great ideas from T2 Tea? A one of a kind limited edition tea cup set. With only 700 made, the beautifully detailed floral & patterned set would make anyone enjoy their tea in elegance. For those who love a surprise everyday, the Book of Secrets Advent Calendar has tea samplings, to find a new flavor or two, which would make the perfect gift to find out the next favorite tea to love.

SUGARFINA at Rockefeller Center

Now who can resist candy? Sugarfina is the perfect candy brand that makes little candies so if you eat a few you don’t feel so guilty. Plus, who can resist the store’s unbelievable Instagram-worthy candy wall?

Sugarfina at Rockefeller Center

Candy is one of those things you would never re-gift, am I right? These are some of my faves, especially one for the fellas. The Corona gift set comes so nicely packaged, you would never think you are gifting a beer concept set. For the ladies or even a group of girlfriends, the Rose All Day Bento Box is so pretty to gift. But for those who love all kinds of candy, I think my favorite is the Bento Box from Sugarfina where you can choose from a variety of flavors to put into the picture perfect box.

And who would resist the perfect Champagne gummy bear candy as a stocking stuffer, right?

FAO SCHWARZ at Rockefeller Center

Christmas can’t be Christmas without some of the most special toys; and even better from one of the most special toy stores in the world. FAO Schwarz is BACK…and right in front of the iconic Rockefeller Center tree! While the entire store is a dream and I would buy it all if I could, here are some of my favorites that caught my eye and make great gifts for little ones that you may not find anywhere else.

The classic FAO Schwarz teddy bear and all the iconic large stuffed animals remind me of my own youth when I wanted a larger than life zoo filled with giraffes and bears in my own home.

The hand painted decor and details put into the interactive areas all over the new store make it the perfect reason to visit alone. Plus, if you’re like me you can’t resist looking at the Barbie’s. They have so many beautiful limited edition Barbie’s perfect for a collector or  the little girl in your family.

FAO Schwarz at Rockefeller Center

I can’t wait to go back and see my son enjoy the race car making area where he’ll be able to build his own. His excitement for all the toys that let him build and create couldn’t be contained! If you know a child who loves to build structures, the Meccano set makes a great gift!

FAO Schwarz at Rockefeller Center

There is nothing more iconic than the large floor piano! Of course, we couldn’t resist trying it out and had a blast doing so. Who remembers the movie BIG with Tom Hanks?

So if you find yourself in New York, make it a point to stroll through some of my favorites and enjoy the holiday scenery at Rockefeller Center and create memories with those you love.

Have you been to Rockefeller Center during the holidays or wish to? What are you most excited about? Let me know in the comments below! Happy Holiday shopping!

Family Weekend in the Poconos

Family Weekend in the Poconos

Who enjoys getting away even if only for a weekend? I definitely do. And to be honest, it’s taken me awhile to share this wonderful home away from home that I was so excited to enjoy with my family during a weekend in the Poconos a few months ago. Life happens and as I am just jumping back into my creative spirit, I am so happy to finally share it with you. But don’t be deceived, just as much as this is the perfect place in the Poconos in the fall and winter months, it also makes a perfect home for a family gathering as you start to think about warmers days for summer getaways.

weekend in the Poconos

weekend in the Poconos

Located within a Poconos community in Pennsylvania, this Oasis Holiday Home has the most beautiful view of a lake right in the backyard (which is ideal for all the summer activities!) and only 10 minutes away from some of the most enjoyable activities for children for any season. Want to get a head start on planning for a Fall vacation? I don’t know about you, but I’ve already got a few plans in the pipeline and one of them is enjoying the transition of the fall leaves, which would make this home an ideal place to stay again!

I have stayed in an Oasis Holiday Home before (seen here), and the owners have such a liar for home design and style. So not only are you enjoying the location of being by a lake or a beach for a backyard, but you are also enjoying all the amenities you would need in a home without having to pack anything but your clothing and toiletries. I’ve shared  this Pocono home on my Instagram here, here, here, here, and in a blog post here and here, so be sure to check them out to see how easy it was to make this home feel like home even if only for a weekend.

From playing with my son in the game room to just hanging out enjoying a morning together, and a little fashion photoshoot with my husband, the beauty of being surrounded by nature for a weekend really can’t be beat.

With 2 bedrooms on the top floor, two on the main floor and one bedroom in the “basement” (with direct access to the driveway for anyone who cannot take the stairs) equipped with a crib, every single family member up to 12 people can enjoy this beautiful and spacious Poconos home.

Can you tell I was already ready for spring with our Crocs at the door? Let’s hope there aren’t any more snow days ahead for us with the strange weather pattern we’ve been experiencing. But don’t let that stop you because this would make the perfect ski home too! The slopes aren’t too far away and planning for next winter for the holidays would get you a head start on the crowds!

Thank you to Oasis Holiday Homes for letting us enjoy their stunning home. We are grateful to have spent time together as a family when we needed it most.

Cheers to 2018!

Cheers to 2018!

Happy New Year! I wish you all the best as you start another year blessed with those you love. It’s also a moment to acknowledge that if you are living a different life than you were last year – someone no longer here, a new job, on a different path – it doesn’t mean that the next steps for 2018 will be as difficult. You will rise. When I think about how I wanted to spend 2017, I know that I wanted to dedicate more time to family and friends and travel. I did my best to do that. I also wanted to indulge in some of the best of what makes my home better. From nicer and cozier bedding to enjoying my husband’s flair for cooking, I was excited to ring in  2018 in style at home!

We hosted many holidays this season at our home, from Thanksgiving to Christmas Eve and kept New Year’s Eve simple with some friends. When I found these gold tabletop accessories from the Martha Stewart home & holiday collection for our hosting duties, I fell in love. Simple design with a touch of elegance and I was able to elevate the tabletop for our dinner parties.

And there’s not special way to say cheers to 2018 if you don’t have great wine! In 2017, I was thrilled to connect with Martha Stewart this year when she launched her Martha Stewart Wine Co. subscription. The wine tasting along was incredible, so when I received my first box to my home I was impressed with the selection. My husband is big on how to pair food and wine, so we both took advantage of making a few of Martha’s recipes from her Slow Cooker book to pair with her wine selections and her year of entertaining book to have dinner party decor ideas – and they did not disappoint.

Thank you for always being such wonderful supportive readers. I wish you nothing but love and joy this year and raise my glass to you – Cheers to your best year yet!

Things I Learned // What Busy Moms Don’t Talk About

Things I Learned // What Busy Moms Don’t Talk About

Women are busy these days. Sometimes too busy for their own good, particularly when you’re a Mom. I am one of those women. It seems that because we are so busy, we forget or ignore or just simply avoid taking the time to talk about some of the real issues we are faced with. Most importantly, I wanted to shed some light on what I believe all woman should feel comfortable sharing for the betterment of others.

We can’t do it all.

There. I said it. We really try to do it all. Partly because it feels good when we’ve accomplished something, we try our best to do just about everything. It’s not for not wanting to say ‘no’ as much as it is that our plates are full – home, kids, work, projects, meetings, after school activities, family gatherings, time with friends, planning for time away, actual time away, the unpacking and cleaning after coming back from being away – the cycle continues. I believe it’s time we feel okay with saying to someone – “We can’t do it all”, and we are still good mother’s! One way to manage what we to want to do is creating a time and task calendar. I use the Uncalendar for organizing my teaching schedule, and now also use one for my personal life! It is a true game changer! So even though we can’t do it all, we can at least have a place to manage all that we can do and want to do.

busy moms

We eat the burnt toast. (Sometime’s literally!)

That’s right, the burnt toast! How many of you make sure everything is great for everyone else before it’s great for yourself? We know we deserve better, but we seldom do it or too busy to do it. We let the coffee get cold, are too busy to indulge in the fancy and shiny things for ourselves, or don’t do date night as much as we would like (and probably need!) to. I am guilty of that more than I’d like to admit. We know we want the nice things, the good things, things that make us feel great. Moms also don’t talk about the changes in their bodies that keep them from feeling great. Not everyone tells a Mom that with a new baby also comes some things not as wonderful or precious – like bladder leaks! Exactly! I recently was invited to an event by the Always brand to discover one of their new products that help women feel their best. It had me thinking about what it meant for women who suffer from issues that they are too embarrassed to talk about, and how they let it go on without speaking to anyone about it. They feel forced to settle for the “burnt toast”.  I don’t personally suffer from incontinence, but as one of the most natural experiences a woman can have after childbirth or at an older age, no women should have to settle for uncomfortable and ugly underwear that denies her feeling good about herself.

Did you know 1 in 3 women experience bladder leaks1? I had no idea. It’s not at all uncommon – so why aren’t more moms and women talking about it? The Always Discreet brand let us know that a common complaint from women who experience bladder leaks is there are no stylish options to help protect them. In fact, 2 in 3 women that have tried bladder leak underwear avoid wearing them all together, even when they know they need them2 (settling for that burnt toast!).  At the event, I learned that the Always Discreet brand decided to address the issue for women dealing with incontinence by creating the Always Discreet Boutique underwear, to restore their confidence and make sure woman are putting themselves first and not settling for the burnt toast when it comes to our health.  It’s time Mom’s put themselves first, feel good about doing it, and continue to do the things they love without fear of leaks!  To be able to wear pretty underwear that not only looks good, but solves all of those little problems some women never want to discuss. It’s time you put yourself first, feel feel good about doing it, and go out on date night without any worry! Hint, hint!

This innovative new product was created after the Alway brand spoke to, and learned from, thousands of real women who experience bladder leaks and feel there shouldn’t have to be a tradeoff between maximum protection and a product that makes them feel beautiful. I also recently learned that 77% of women say the idea of wearing bladder leak underwear makes them feel older than they would like to feel. One of the Always Discreet Boutique scientist actually emptied an entire beaker’s worth of water onto the core of the product. While the core looks and felt very thin, it was able to hold to entire amount of liquid AND feel dry to the touch in seconds. The leading competitors on the market didn’t hold nearly as much liquid and certainly weren’t as dry. Check out the Always Discreet Boutique to see what I mean.

We deal with anxiety.

Recently, I have started to see an increase in Instagram posts from women that I admire and follow about their struggle with anxiety. I appreciate their candor, because if more of us share stories of what causes our anxiety, we’ll know there is a larger support system out there from women we admire. There are varying degrees of anxiety. And while I am no psychologist, I do know that anxiety can be triggered by stress, past experiences or other factors. For me, anxiety is something I only started to experience more after losing my daughter, just 3 years ago tomorrow. It creeps up when I am overwhelmed by too much to do and need a moment to stop myself. It’s those brief bursts of panic that many women deal with, and we don’t do enough of talking about it. We need to recognize it happens and that we are not alone. One way to deal with moments of overwhelmingness has been the Breathe app. I found it only after receiving the new Apple Watch 3 for my birthday. I love using it to help feel centered and to take a moment for myself without the rush of the day or the regret of taking a moment to pause the chaos around me!

Adventure // 3 Ways to Stay Active with a Busy Life

Adventure // 3 Ways to Stay Active with a Busy Life

Thank you to prAna and #WeAllGrow Latina Network for partnering on this post.

The words “I’m busy” are often an understatement in any mother’s daily life. I am sure of it. We all wish there were more hours in the day and less tasks on our to-do lists. Am I right? I know that with everything I have going on this time of year (planning trips and kid camp registrations, tests, tending to allergies, writing speeches, I could go on and on…), I rarely find a moment that I can dedicate to going to the gym. I’ve said a thousand times I’m returning to Bikram Yoga for a 6am class, but have yet to make it. (Trying!) So with my busy life, I know that I have to find different ways to motivate myself to stay active until I finally do make it to that 6am class! Here are my 3 ways to stay active while “the busy” keeps going.

ways to stay active

1. WEAR CLOTHES THAT MOTIVATE

There is something to be said for wearing clothing that motivates you to stay active. Feeling good about yourself is something I believe is important in motivating yourself to get fit and take on a new adventure, even if it means getting a new outfit to get the ball rolling. This netted top is long enough to cover my backside while light enough to wear on a cool or hot day. I also love finding a perfect pair of leggings that made with attention to detail  and feel snug in all the right places. High-waisted is a plus! These prAna pants fit the bill! Smooth, snug, high-waisted and made from sustainable material (doing good for the world!), these leggings were the perfect motivation to enjoy an active day outdoors!

ways to stay active

ways to stay active

2. TAKE THE FAMILY WITH YOU

Taking pics is one thing, but having my husband and my son to make it a day we can all enjoy outdoors is another. Going on hikes (see post here), finding ways to take on new adventures together, and modeling the importance of physical activity to my son is important. Getting to spend time with those you love by choosing activities that keep you active is the perfect way to get more stuff done!

3. DISCOVER SOMEWHERE NEW

Making the effort to find somewhere new to walk/hike/workout when you have too many things already on your plate may just feel like another task. However, it is possible to make it happen. Take a moment to think about a place you’ve always wanted to see or visit – even if only a short drive away. You’ll discover you are more inclined to spend time exploring a new place with a fresh set of eyes, and therefore stay active longer. Maybe that’s the reason I am less likely to make it to a gym to stay active (although winter may change my mind!) since I love the adventure of discovering somewhere new.

What do you do to stay active when you are too busy to workout? I’d love to be inspired by your ideas! Thank you for stopping by!

Getting Outdoors // Day Trip to Bushkill Falls, PA

Getting Outdoors // Day Trip to Bushkill Falls, PA

Happy May! Can you believe it? Summer is almost here, and I’m taking advantage of  the warm and sunny weekends to take a few day trips with my family – our most recent being to Bushkill Falls, PA. Mr. E and I got married outdoors, under a tent and near a barn with mountain views, so it’s no surprise one of our favorite ways to spend a weekend is a day trip with our son hiking up to a waterfall! If you’ve been following my Instastories, you know we’ve even been looking into purchasing an RV since we enjoy camping and the outdoors so much! We love to travel;  just look at some of our favorite places we’ve been – Greece, Montreal, Cape Cod (here, here and here), Hawaii, Walt Disney World, and Argentinaday trip to bushkill falls

day trip to bushkilll falls I’ve known of Bushkill Falls located in the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania since we visited several others in the area, but last week was my first time visiting the falls. Let me just say that I’ve been to Niagra Falls, and now I know why they call Bushkill Falls the Niagra Falls of Pennsylvania! The 100foot waterfall alone is stunning to see! You can get up close and actually feel the cool mist of the water splashing down as it rapidly descends from above while you walk along a wooden path and bridge.

day trip to bushkill falls

day trip to bushkill falls

day trip to bushkill falls

day trip to bushkill falls There are different trails (green yellow, blue, red) you can hike depending on how much time you wish to spend there. The Green trail being the easiest with only a few steps but no climbing while the red trail is the most challenging at 2.5 miles long with several steps to climb and over 2 hours to hike. Overall, it’s important to remember you are hiking about 1200 feet above sea level, so before going it’s good to know what to wear and bring. I saw all people of all ages hiking, so it’s really about how you come ready for the hike. A plus? There are places to rest along the way – granted it may be on a large rock! And don’t be surprised if you see a creature or two along the way!

Plan for a Day Trip to Bushkill Falls

Water Bottle

I forgot my water bottle in the car, which totally was not smart! But I was able to purchase one at the food store they have on site. Here are a few good ones that can keep your drink cool for the long hike!

Technology

You are not going to want to miss out on all the beautiful places to capture on camera! So be sure to have it fully charged before you head out the door! Now whether you use your heavy duty camera or just your phone, make sure to have a battery backup! With all the IG stories or snapchatting you’ll want to do, having a small backup charger will be a must! Some of my faves are lightweight and give you plenty of power to last the day!

Binoculars

If you have kids, they’ll love to have a pair of binoculars! There is so much to see, and it’s a great way to observe some of nature through a closer lens. The little ones love to feel like explorers, so it’s exciting to make it part of the hiking experience!

Dressing in Layers

No matter the weather, I know that having options on a long hike is so important. Dress in layers, so you have the option to warm yourself up in some of the cooler parts of the hike (seasonal) and when you feel warmer because your heart rate is slowly rising! See below for outfit details in “Shop the Feature”.

Sunscreen and Shades

You can’t forget to protect your skin and your eyes! Wear sunscreen, shades and a hat! The beauty of the waterfalls only makes me more aware of how important it is to take care of what is most natural to us – and that is our skin staying hydrated and protected from the harsh sun.

Comfortable shoes (that can get wet!)

You’re going to want to wear your best version of a hiking shoe! Clearly, I could have been more prepared and worn a better pair myself, so lesson learned. A great pair with a sole that grips works. I’ve recently invested in another pair for my next visit!

Hope you enjoyed this photo story and tips for a lovely day trip out to Bushkill Falls! We’ll be traveling again soon and can’t wait to share our next adventure!

Rested // Comfy & Cozy with CStudio Home

Hello everyone! I am happy to be back! Let’s just say that the start of 2017 began much slower and stranger than expected. I think with so much happening around us in the world right now, I needed to step back a bit, put things into perspective and get a bit more focused for the sake of moving forward full force. So here I am, rested, recharged and ready more than ever to take on 2017 and make it a great year! Thank you for coming along for the ride!

comfy & cozy bedding

Earlier this January, I hosted an event with CStudio Home, whose parent company is The Company Store, that does not only offer fresh and modern bedding design, but happens to be a great place to find those perfect little details for your home. It was CStudio Home’s first pop-up shop in New Jersey, and I was happy to host the event and share some of my favorite bedding from their shop. Even though we’ve haven’t had a considerably cold winter yet in the New York City area, nothing beats a comfy & cozy blanket and soft bedding to make those cooler nights warmer.

When I received my Strie blanket, I wanted nothing more than to stay in it all day – that is how comfortable and how soft the blanket feels. I just had to get another one (in this gorgeous teal color)  as I left the event, because my son had been sneaking to our bed in the middle of the night just to cuddle with us under the blanket. And even though their pop-up shop has closed for the season, you can still find them online. I’ve already got these pillowsthis comforter, and these pillow covers in Geo Denim Blue in my online cart because I couldn’t get enough of them in store!

It was such a pleasure to host so many wonderful people who stopped by to support the event and This Season’s Gold with fun giveaways and a hot chocolate bar to keep everyone feeling cozy. When I started TSG, I never thought I would be hosting these wonderful events with such great brands. But the events have become such a gift to me because I get to meet so many of you and hear your own stories about you, which is what matters to me most. I hope you get to stop by often as I plan to share more wonderful events and collaborations with brands that I love! I can’t wait to tell you!

Some other favorite finds this month that have kept me comfy & cozy has been oversized sweaters, my new favorite over-the-knee boots (50% off on sale!) and this special edition Daniel Wellington watch (15% off with code SEASONSGOLD). I’ve been loving warm brown’s quite a bit lately in my wardrobe, but as with the season’s, I’m sure that is bound to change as we move through the year.
